Late July: McDonald Forest and Siltcoos Lake Loop

Eloise is always happy to ride along for a hike. She likes to gently brush the hair of the parent who carries her.
 Action Girls!

They were supposed to pose with me...

We talked about our pioneer ancestors and enjoyed the break from the heat.
Claire buckles her new sandals--purchased on big sale after a clothing disaster in Florence. We were determined to save the day's plans. This 4 mile loop never fails to deliver excellent mushroom finds.
Claire favors a jaunty Hello Kitty hairstyle these days.
 A frog
Claire helps Dad pick up all the little orange Chanterelles he spots.
 A scaled Amanita.
A huge King Bolete (Porcini)--wow, when we cut this to dehydrate it later is was so deliciously potent!
Failed family group shot, but there's at least an arm or leg of each member.
 Claire is just so cute!
The wind was blowing my new bangs around but I think overall I like them.
 Champagne Chanterelle.
 Varnished Shelf Mushroom.
 Young Ghost Flowers.

This is the naughty face--it often precedes running away.
A big snake came by to visit while we were resting.
Claire leaped out of her skin but Sophie didn't mind chilling with the snake.
 It was three feet long!

 Dad was there too :)

I'm digging for snacks for the ladies while they warm up in the sun.
